Have you ever found a piece that you just KNEW you had to have at first glance? I mean, we’re talking some serious love at first sight here. A piece so downright you that you catch immediate inspiration for a complete outfit as soon as you see it? A piece that you fall in love with faster than a New York Minute? 😉 To me, those are the best kinds of pieces – when something about them just feels inherently you. That’s exactly what happened to me when I first found these pants at Zara. I’m always down for a classic with a little bit of a twist, and these shiny gold buttons were weird enough in the best way for me to be all about them. I actually call them my Mickey Mouse pants because the buttons are so giant!
(Okay, can we just pause for a second to talk about this street and how GORGEOUS it is? I touched on it briefly in my last post, but honestly one of my favorite things about New York is all of the beautiful classic architecture. Is it too much to ask that I live in one of these brownstones?!)
*Little tip – whenever you want to wear all one color, the best way to break it up and add some interest is to make sure you throw some texture into the outfit. I think this particular combination is great for Fall because it’s dark in color, but the floral embroidery still gives it a little pop of warmth and whimsy that keeps it from being too one note. Plus, can you ever really go wrong with all black? Hashtag NOPE.*
Being 5’2″, finding pieces that are proportioned like these pants can be difficult because it’s hard to not be overpowered by so much fabric. However, done right, they can end up elongating you and making you look super tall – which I’m all about. It’s all about the illusion of length! Rocking a high waisted look is one of the easiest ways to give yourself some added “height,” as long as you have the pant (or skirt) length tailored properly. Unfortunately none of these actual pieces that I’m wearing are currently available, but I linked to some really similar (and equally cute!) options above – check them out if you’re in the mood to channel some serious height! Otherwise, there you have it – my outfit that I fell in love with in a New York minute.
Alright guys – that’s all for now. I’ll be headed off to Florida tomorrow, so stay tuned for lots of Palm Beach inspired looks in the coming weeks!
ps – Anyone catch the MaryKate and Ashley movie reference in the title of this post? 😉
